Description:

Emissions from vehicle materials, such as seat coverings, plastics, polyurethane foam, carpet, sound deadeners, seals, adhesives etc., affect vehicle interior air quality (VIAQ) and subsequently the comfort and perceived quality of the vehicle in some markets. Multiple countries have developed methods to measure specific compounds from the vehicle interior. This has resulted in the development of OEM specific performance based emissions limits on methods for materials and components. A VIAQ working group for the United Nations Economic Council has developed an international mutual resolution for the harmonization of the vehicle methods. ISO will adopt the UN resolution as part ISO TC 146/SC 6 12219 standards including other harmonized material, component, and analytical methods. This course reviewed the standards and regulations affecting the automotive industry in regards to VIAQ, and how to comply with current and upcoming OEM sampling and analytical requirements.
